Matchless inner monologue. This is exactly how conversation works... it is the subtext which must be probed, and tested for. If you suspect something, because of what was not said, then it is probably true.
It took me a long time to start to watch for this in conversation, to attempt to listen to word choice, and omission. Usually I am pretty oblivious. I am not sure that until you learned the lesson you could really comprehend the usefulness of the technique. If you could, then I think that Persuasion should be required reading for high school students. Sadly, I suspect that it would bore.
