Introduction

This page contains a general outline of the various Agreements Gabor and I have. It refers to sub-pages for details, and also to a variety of Conventions.

General Approach

Standard American, two over one is forcing to game, except when the suit is rebid. Two level bids are used for two-suited preempts. 2C is strong and forcing. We use a weak 1NT(12-14hcp), and Transfer Walsh responses to 1C to right side 1NT.

When opponents interfere, Negative Free Bids are used. Strong hands are bid through a double.

DONT is used against strong NT bids; Cappelletti against 1NT openers which can include a hand with 13 or fewer high card points.

On defense, leads are 3rd and 5th. Carding is upside down, attitude. We interfere to the "Law" level. Count is given by HOLE (High Odd, Low Even). Preference is attitude, then count, then lead direction.

Opening Bids

1♣
May be short. Either a 12-21hcp distributional hand, or a 15-19hcp balanced hand. See: Transfer Walsh
1
12-21 hcp, distributional. 5+ unless 4441, or longer ♣ See: Transfer Walsh
1
12-21 hcp, 5+. See: One Heart Opening
1♠
12-21 hcp, 5+♠. See: One Spade Opening
1NT
12-14hcp, balanced (5422 and 6332 are balanced if only one doubleton is expose). If second seat, especially vulnerable, bad 12 point hands should be passed. See: One No Trump Opening
2♣
Strong, forcing. 9 tricks, or 22+ hcp and a distributional hand, or 23+ hcp and a balanced hand. See: Strong Two Clubs
2
Frelling. 4+, 4+ 6-10hcp.
2
Ekren. 4-5 and 4-5♠, 3-10 hcp.
2♠
Frelling. Either 6♠, or 4-5♠ and 5+♣. 6-10hcp.
2NT
20-22hcp, balanced. Puppet Stayman responses.
3♣
Preemptive(sound). Follows the 2-3-4 rule depending on vulnerability.
3NT
Gambling. 8 running tricks.
4♣
Namyats. 8-9 tricks, long , slam possible.
4
Namyats. 8-9 tricks, long ♠, slam possible.
4
Premptive. Slam unlikely.
4NT
29-30hcp, balanced hand. Perhaps this should be changed to 6-5 or better in the minors?
5♣
Preemptive.
5
No losers outside the named suit, asks partner to bid 6 with A or K, and 7 with both
≥5NT
You clearly don't need a partner in this auction. Expect a blank stare, followed by a Pass.

Third Seat

In third seat, the opening 1 and 1♠ bids might be slightly weaker. "Missing a king." Two-way reverse Drury is used to allow the auction to stop.

Fourth Seat

In fourth seat, preempts are disposed of entirely. The two level bids are now:

2♣
Strong, forcing. 9 tricks, or 22+ hcp and a distributional hand, or 23+ hcp and a balanced hand. See: Strong Two Clubs
2
To play.
2NT
20-22hcp, balanced.
