Negative Free Bids

Negative Free Bids are not so much a convention as a treatment. A free bid is a bid responder makes even though opener will get another chance to bid.

In Standard American, free bids are usually stong (game inviting strength or better), and responsive hands(5-10 hcp) are bid through a negative double, or a pass.

Another choice is to make the free bids negative, that is they deny a game invitation, and offer to play a part score in the named suit.
