Swing Dancing/Triple Step
From Tractatus
Daa ta-ta. Left right-left.
The thing to remember on the triple step is that you need to step at appropriate points. You are not mashing all the steps together. The step should be definitively swung eighth notes.

Musings
I like to think of the triple step as a replacement for a single step. Any moment you were about to step onto a foot, you can instead step onto the foot, quickly shift your weight back, then finish the step. This is hand for making quick adjustments.
I learned a neat way to show this off watching Paolo Lanna. I noticed that on every triple he did a rock-step then a step. So, when stepping onto his right foot, he would place the right foot slightly back, and close to his left foot. shift onto it, shift back, and then step. This resutled in a neat side to side motion, as the right foor moves left, then right. It is also very fast, because it shortens all the weight transfers.
I really like the action of the step, so I think I'll switch to it.
Variations
Closed
This lets you move in the opposite direction. Cross your lead foot in front, or behind your trailing foot. Catch up with the trailing foot. Continue by crossing in front again.
You can also go Open-Closed or Closed-Open for different looks, and less travel.
Back Step
On the first part of the triple, step back. Bring the trailing foot back, now dyou can step forward either left or right. This is handy for increasing tension on the follower. (Example: six count swingout)
